ixLayer is a unified direct-to-patient platform built for biopharma. It connects the full healthcare ecosystem — labs, patients, payments, providers, and prescriptions — to deploy personalized patient experience programs across multiple therapeutic areas. The platform is HIPAA compliant, SOC 2 and HITRUST certified, with all partner labs meeting CLIA/CAP clinical compliance protocols. ixLayer has powered over 1,100 nationwide programs and enabled over 4 million patient care journeys.
Akadenia built the lab integrations backend using Python and Django on AWS, with SFTP-based event-driven architecture for reliable data exchange with laboratory partners. We integrated with Quest Diagnostics, Molecular Testing Labs, and other lab providers, handling order placement, result ingestion, status tracking, and data normalization across different formats and protocols. We implemented EHR integration with Epic and built communication pipelines using HL7 and FHIR standards for insurance verification, lab orders, and electronic health record data exchange. On the frontend, we built the customer-facing platform using Next.js, TypeScript, React, and Tailwind CSS — the white-labeled patient experience used by biopharma programs nationwide.
